Edmonton in winter is something else entirely
The river valley trails are stunning even in the cold. West Edmonton Mall kept us busy for way longer than expected - it's massive. People here are genuinely friendly and the food scene downtown impressed me.
Great city for a proper winter getaway
I was a bit unsure about visiting in February but it totally won me over. The Ice Castles at Hawrelak Park were absolutely wild to see in person. Locals gave us great tips on where to eat and nothing felt too touristy or overpriced.
Way more to do here than I thought
Came mostly to visit family but ended up doing loads of exploring. The Royal Alberta Museum is genuinely one of the best I've been to - well laid out and easy to spend a few hours in. The food options in the Whyte Ave area were great too, lots of variety and good prices.
Loved the festival energy here
Edmonton clearly takes its festivals seriously. Even in early winter there was loads going on. The folk music scene is strong and you can feel it when you walk around. Jasper Avenue had some solid spots to eat and unwind after a full day out.
Perfect mix of outdoors and city life
The North Saskatchewan River valley is huge and really well kept - good trails and nice views even in the colder months. West Edmonton Mall sounds like a cliché but honestly the water park and ice rink inside made it fun for everyone in our group.
A proper Canadian city worth your time
Poutine at a local spot on Whyte Ave hit the spot after a cold afternoon outside. The city has a relaxed pace that I really liked. Easy to get around and locals were always happy to point you in the right direction.
